BIOGRAPHY OF VIDMANTAS ŽIEMELIS

Born in 1950 in Galiskiai village, Moletai district, in a family of teachers.
In 1957, enrolled to the first grade of Alytus District Daugu Secondary School.
In 1968, graduated from Vilnius Boarding-School No. 1.
In 1977, graduated from Faculty of Law at Vilnius University and acquired a speciality of Lawyer.
In 1969 - 1971, worked as a labourer in construction organizations.
In 1971 - 1973, performed compulsory military service in the Soviet army.
In 1973 - 1981, worked in manufacturing union "Lietuvos buitinė chemija" as a machine operator, a legal adviser, and a head of human resources sector.
In 1981 - 1990, worked as an assistant prosecutor in Vilnius Transport, a prosecutor of General Supervision Department of Procuracy of the Republic of Lithuania.
In 1990 - 2000, was elected as a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania, member of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.
In 1996 - 1998, was the Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania.
In 2001 – 2004, a lawyer in “V. Žiemelis, A. Valys and partners” Law Firm.
In 2004 - 2012, a member of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.
In 2011, defended his dissertation and graduated with PhD of Social Sciences (Laws).
In 2012, was added to the list of practicing lawyers.
In 2013, together with lawyers Albertas Valys and Karolis Rugys, established Žiemelis, Valys, Rugys and partners Law Firm.
Has a son Gediminas, a daughter Jurgita. Divorced.
Sporting, interested in the philosophical literature, a member of the public organization “Teisininkų klubas (Lawyers' Club)”, non-party.
